Meeting
at a local parking area in Salt Lake City, UT a group of ski enthusiasts
and their extended family animals assembled to caravan together for a drive
up to Evanston, Wyoming. Curtis Camp (Trek), Steveann Thompson (Tito),
Tim & Tina Brown (Max) , Carrie Clark, and Tim Boschert.
After a quick stop in Evanston for additional supplies, we headed south on the Mirror Lake Highway toward the Bear River Recreational Area. The trail head area serves snowmobiles, cross-country day skiers, and overnight yurt users. BRORA and the USFS support the yurt system in this drainage, a total of four yurts in all. Our objective was the Lily Lake yurt. Three miles in on skis pulling a sled and roughly three hours car to yurt. The fun part is pulling a sled in. With a sled you can bring a few additional items you wouldn't dare bring if just backpacking in. The trail in over all is gradually uphill - just a few minor hills to negotiate. Rest often and complain you're not any younger. The yurt is well appointed considering. Ample sturdy bunks, propane/wood stove heat, gas light and cook stove and an outhouse with a nice backyard view. HIGHLIGHTS:
